Saturday 13 august Route Map
I got away from Cracow bright and early at 7.30 and had an enjoyable ride at first, though it seemed mostly uphill for the first 60km. I reached Eidsvold (93km) at 12.15 and charged up in town for 2 hours at an RV stopping area. I wasn’t tempted to stay longer as I didn’t much like the look of the place, and so decided to push on to Munduberra, another 40km.
At a lookout I even did a bit of trading – I swapped an as-new loaf of gluten-free bread I hated (yuk!), only missing one slice, for a new can of icy-cold coke.
I then got a rear tyre puncture going up a big hill with another 10km to go still, and pumped it back up again several times to get me to Munduberra Hill truck stop, 2km south of the town. I worked half the night fixing the puncture (several times) with the help and encouragement of Scott, a driller going home to Maryborough who had pulled in with electrical problems to his ‘ute, and Will, a retired dragline fitter from the coal mines, who had just pulled in for a tea break and gifted me a set of Allen keys.
The mozzies were bad and to top it off I developed a painful saddle-sore on my left butt cheek.
